1 Hire the services of electrical consultant to supervise electrical work

For a project of this nature, a electrical consultant is hired to oversee the work of internal wiring, liaise with the utility and oversee the external installation works.

2 Submit appication to Fiji Electricity Authority (FEA) and await site inspection

Documents needed are: Title copy, application letter; Electrical Permit; ID of owner. The electrical contractor or consultant would submit a permit for electrical wiring (this permit is obtained during the Building permit process, and is a part of the Building Permit) and a covering letter giving details of the electrical installation including maximum power demand and the location to FEA.

3 Receive site visit from FEA and await estimate

FEA will inspect the site; check whether the required load can be supplied or not and do a preliminary design, looking for the point of entry. the National Control Centre (internal department of FEA) will confirm that the load can be supplied. FEA provides a quotation to the contractor including cost of material and labor.
If the cost is higher than FDJ 100,000, then the quotation is signed by the CEO.
If cost estimate ranges between FDJ 5, 000 – 100, 000, the quotation is signed by the General Manager. The quotation is valid for a year.

4 FEA conducts external connection works

FEA opens a job file which is then sent to the Finance department and supply team to check if all materials are available. The utility conducts all external connection works including installing pad mounted transformer and service cables.
